Princesse Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary

We're excited for the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel who only yesterday became parents to a little princess. This excites us because we love the royal family, there's a brand new baby involved and our mind instantly goes to fashion statements. How will the little princess dress?
Her mother has been known to be both classic, and at times dull (we're just repeating what we've heard others say). However, with the bold statement of naming her daughter Estelle, we've changed our minds a little bit about the style. Maybe, it won't al be frills, and tutu, and cashmere and silk, perhaps little Estelle is getting a hooded jumper from modern Mini Rodini and skull leggings from Slugs and Snails?

This is what LatteMama, the halfway haven between classic and unique, imagines baby Estelle look to be like.
A comfy Cardigan, soft and stylish and the perfect cover for what's underneath;

the statement piece, Estelle is a statement name and we predict this baby wanting the world to know that she's wild at heart...
while wearing this lovely handmade dress by Rafsen. So unique and dreamlike.

Pancakes Schmancakes

Forget about pancakes for a minute, yes I know they come in amazing and different varieties, but I promise you there is something so much more glorious and better to enjoy on this day. In Sweden, we celebrate Fettisdagen (fat tuesday). Instead of plain, thin pancakes masquerading in whipped cream, nuts, chocolate and whatever other preferences you may have we eat this dreamy bun filled with cream and almond paste! Oh and don't forget the hat!

Ingredien

  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk (70 to 80 degrees F)
  • 1 (.25 ounce) envelope active dry yeast
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk, or as needed
  • 5 ounces marzipan
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • confectioners' sugar for dusting

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs with butter and milk. Sprinkle yeast overtop and allow to soften for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, sift together 5 cups flour with 1/2 cup sugar, salt, and ground cardamom. Once yeast has softened, stir flour mixture into milk mixture until a soft dough forms. Cover bowl with a towel, and allow to rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes.
  2. Sift together flour and baking powder. Stir into risen dough, then knead until smooth. Form into 16 balls (or 24 if you'd like smaller semlor) and place onto greased baking sheets. Cover with a towel, and allow to rise until doubled in bulk, 35 to 40 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  4. Bake in preheated oven 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown and the center has firmed. Cool buns on a wire rack to room temperature.
  5. Once cool, cut a slice about 1/2 inch thick off of the top of the bun and set aside. Scoop or cut out the center of the buns, leaving a shell about 1/2 inch thick. Tear the removed bread into small pieces and place into a bowl. Moisten the bread with milk, then mix in marzipan until smooth. Add additional milk if needed until the marzipan filling is nearly as soft as pudding.
  6. Whip cream with 2 tablespoons sugar to stiff peaks. Fill each shell with a spoonful of marzipan filling. Pipe whipped cream on top of the filling to 1/2 inch over the top of the bun. Replace the tops onto the buns, and dust with confectioner's sugar before serving.

What the LatteBaby wears to party...

We were invited to a brilliant 2 year olds birthday party today. That's why LB pulled out his latest outfit - a crisp shirt with fabulous bunny wunny jeans both from No Added Sugar and now available at LatteMama. We'd show you a picture of the party boy, but he parties so hard we never had a chance to take a pic before he fell asleep!

Just In

So it's not spring yet, and it's definitely not summer, but thankfully the clothes from SS 2012 are sensible and will still keep your LatteBaby warm! We're huge layering fans at the LatteMama HQ and these pieces all work with a extra top, some tights (yes even for boys, you have checked out Slugs & Snails haven't you?) and a cardigan.

Monday Mama #13

Name: Laura Weight

Blogname: The Mummy Life

Location: Suffolk, UK

How did you start your blog and where did you find the inspiration from?

I have been blogging for a few years now on different platforms and during my pregnancy with my son but it was only when he was around 3 months old that I

discovered the community of parent blogging and that's when The Mummy Life was born!

Your son is turning 2 soon, what do you have planned for his birthday?

As he's still little we are not planning a big party as it would be too much for him but we are taking him to soft play which he LOVES and will let him have cake and

sweets which he doesn't normally have, then as is valentines day we will be having a meal with his grandparents in the evening.

Tell us about any nicknames you have for your little one?

We have many nicknames for him, Lu, lulee, lubee, lulu but his nickname from my blog 'rocket' came about as my Aunty calls him Rocket-Bum as he never stops!

One thing you know you shouldn't let your child do but you allow it anyways.

We got into the habit of letting him watch DVDs at bedtime, mostly Little Einsteins and Pocoyo. Alot of parents are against TVs in children's rooms but we found it helped. Now he's a bit older we have stopped TV at night as he doesn't wind down properly.

Talk about one thing you're convinced your child has inherited from you.

Hmmmm, probably his love of sleep! We are lucky as once he's asleep he will usually stay asleep and for ages! (though getting him to go to sleep is another subject!)

Do you and LB ever match or would you ever consider doing that?

There are times where we have all gone out wearing the same colours but obviously as he's a boy it's harder to match, but his daddy has a Tshirt exactly the same as him! If I had a little girl id love to match!

What makes you a LatteMama?

Love of individuality, style and comfort!

How has motherhood changed you and your style?

I find I wear more comfort clothes now I'm a mum, but it's also nice to get glammed up occasionally to remind yourself you're more than just 'mum'.

If there's one advice you can give to new mothers what would it be?

Learn as you go along. Trust your own instincts and parent how YOU want.

What are your future projets, and goals?

I'd love to do photography full time professionally, also I make films and would like to continue with that. Alongside trying for another latte-baby!

If you could choose one piece of clothing from LatteMama for your little one, what would it be?

I love the stripy tights! You can do so much to make an outfit with them!

The snow has fallen. I am not afraid, I will not let it conquer me, I did grow up in Sweden - but there is something about snow in London which makes life much more difficult to manoeuvre. Bunny Love Cardigan by NSA also on SALE to keep kiddies warm and stylish.
